The 5th Sunday

I tend not to look ahead in the calendar to see when there will be five Sunday's in any given month when crafting the first Sartorial Compass post, so of course today {still being in April} really threw me for a loop.  So instead of posting more photos from the adorable Rachel Bilson, I figured took this as the perfect opportunity to post some photos of a few Sartorial Compass alumni being awesome.

Diane Kruger has been looking insane lately.
Diane looking stellar in Derek Lam, and her costar on the left, sure knows how to rock a midi!

Zoe Saldana mixes textures and patterns like a pro.
I am IN LOVE with Kate's sporty chic-ness out and about in L.A.

This weekend has been beautiful in NYC, enjoy the rest of your Sunday!!

My Life Lately

One thing that I love about New York {and Chicago, and most other big cities I assume} is that people really know how to enjoy a weekend.  The second it warms up people are spending time at parks, dining outside and enjoying any bits and pieces of nature that they can.  Another great thing?  Every musician that you could ever want to see comes through NYC.

An afternoon spent at DeKalb Market.

Easter Sunday at Prospect Park.
I found this on the street...makes me sad that if I asked a 10 year old what this was they would have no idea....
Ben Rector at Webster Hall.

A great weekend typically includes a perfect latte.

Happy almost Friday yall!

Give-It-To-Me

Loosely translated, Givenchy means "give-it-to-me" in English...I mean it doesn't...but that's beside the point.  So it's no surprise that last night as I FINALLY finished looking at all of the SS '12 shows on style.com that I fell head over heels for nearly every look that came down Riccardo Tisci's runway.  Pastel pinks, black for good measure, and the most unbelievably well executed peplum's that you have ever seen strutted down a runway.  They truly stole my heart.

 And yes I would like a massively oversized shark tooth necklace to wear with...everything?

The tailoring is so spot on, and the sheer paneling on the skirts and tops is beautiful.

This leather pailette of sorts is dreamy.  The Givenchy version of a skirt-suit...I'm in!

 This is the peplum to end all peplum...Peplum by the way means a flared ruffle attached to the waist of a jacket or bodice...
And there you have it...thoughts?

Shoutout again to my girl Marissa for the lovely, springy and PINK header up top!!

Sartorial Compass: Rachel Bilson, Trailblazer

Rachel Bilson, April's pint-sized Sartorial Compass knows that great style isn't rocket science.  She knows that sticking to the basics of classic American style means you can still be the coolest girl around.  Blazers, denim and all around cuteness abound in this latest group of photos of R-Bils.

 Black blazers + pink + ruffles = too cute!
 The bright coral blazer, nude dress and Margiela heels in the center is perfect, so effortless but striking.  And who doesn't love a blazer, tee and jeans?
Party blazers!!  I love a moto shaped jacket, especially when it's made in jacquard like in the center...major points for that one, and the way that she paired the mustard dress with the wine colored velvet is genius.

Grin & Bare 'Em

The freakishly warm weather that has dominated much conversation since "the winter that never happened, 2012," careened into New York this past Monday with a high of about 85.  Presenting a situation that I have a very difficult time reconciling while getting dressed in the morning in a sweltering hot, no AC room.  Problem 1) my legs are glow-in-the-dark pale right now, issue 2) despite the temperature I have a really hard time dressing like it's July, in April, it just isn't right, and lastly dilemma 3) I really hate heat, and am additionally not a big fan of summer clothes.

I decided to ease myself into the bare legs by wearing a midi-skirt from J.Crew that is perfect for this weather.  Then I threw on this Old Navy tee, I really like pairing the silky bottom with a basic on top.
And, well, it's spring soo that means I'll be wearing my denim jacket pretty much every other day.  {It's Thursday and I'm wearing it again...and who knows what Friday holds}.
Yesterday I was still battling the weird temperatures and have been wanting to wear this skirt again for a while {it's not lined so wearing it with tights is awkward...it's definitely more suited for fall and spring}.  I paired the J.Crew skirt with a super bright tee {also from J.Crew}...I will be wearing this a lot.
Obviously it's not summer yet so leather was a necessary addition.

The skirt/t-shirt combination will absolutely be this summer's wardrobe, now I just need a few more tees...

Come Together Right Now...

Father/daughter duo Sir Paul McCartney & Stella McCartney are each others biggest fans!  Whenever one is celebrating something the other is always there to lend support.  So when Paul decided to have an event to premiere his latest music video Stella was right there, armed and ready, with loads of clothes to dress Hollywood's chicest ladies.

Sartorial Compass alumni Gwen Stefani looked ridiculously gorgeous in Stella's version of the pantsuit.
 Miranda Kerr, one of my favorites of late, in a Stella dress.
 Gwyneth looked cool, and easy breezy as usual.
And lastly, Kristen Stewart, I thought she did a great job of looking exactly like herself while also trying something new with her look.  I love it with the shoe!

Sartorial Compass: Rachel Bilson, In Print

Rachel Bilson is open to trying everything.  One day she'll be an expert at color-blocking and the next she goes with all over print.  There are so many great prints for us to choose from during the spring and going into summer but sometimes it's overwhelming.  Hopefully she can help guide you to the perfect print for spring!

 Red pants, patterned blouse and an animal print, and it works seamlessly.

 At the 2010 Met Gala Rachel Bilson, like Maggie Gyllenhaal, chose a dress from the Louis Vuitton Spring collection, it was such a perfect print and fit on her!

Will this inspire you to find the perfect prints for the season?

Got My Eyes On You

I'm trying to spice up the decor in my bedroom right now, but often that takes time and usually a bit of money...  Right now there are a select few things that I can't get out of my head!
I need a fan in my room for practical purposes, but I figure that I can find one that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.  These are a few that I found on Etsy.  Thoughts?

I love these gold framed chalkboards, I'd prefer the one above sans biology lesson.  Morgan & Katie...remind you of a certain summer lab?  I would love to use this simply as a way of posting reminders in my room, but also think it would be fun for listing restaurants to try etc...
I would LOVE to find one of these chairs to replace the desk chair of mine that split in half when I first moved in {that's right, my desk has been chair-less for 3 months}.  Any suggestions on where to find one for under $100?

And I'm Back in the Game!

Do you remember in early March when I complained about Marni x H&M, that launching on a Thursday was ludicrous and unfair?  Well a week later I wandered into an H&M {and by wandered, I mean walked briskly toward the first sales associate that I spotted}, and blurted out, "I know this is a crazy question, but do you have any Marni x H&M left?"  To which she replied "oh yeah, back here."

My heartbeat began to quicken as I followed her toward the back of the store.  I perused the small selection of leftovers for all of 30 seconds before I noticed a shoe box atop the clothing rack.

Sartorial Compass: Rachel Bilson, Double C Darling

As with many past Sartorial Compass', Rachel Bilson loves and is beloved by the house of Chanel.  Always one to make it her own, she pulls off sparkles and tweed like a pro.
She loves black.  {the strapless is my favorite, such a perfect silhouette}
She loves white.  {hello shimmery tweed fringe}
She loves more black.  {<3 it all, all day everyday}
And she loves shimmers and sparkles all over.  {70's disco queen look on the left is my favorite...and yes she could pass as a ballerina}

To be clear, not everything Chanel is wonderful, but everything Chanel, that she picks is perfect.  There is nothing too girly, or matronly about any of these looks, and she pulls them off with {seemingly} very little effort.  Which Chanel look is your favorite on Ms. Bilson?
