Pure Michigan

Like I said in the last post I was able to travel up to Michigan this weekend for a wedding.  The wedding was a blast, and getting to have some much needed family & friend time was priceless!!  So I thought I would share a few photos from the weekend, I'm not sure if you all have ever seen Pure Michigan advertisements but a) they are very well done from an advertising standpoint and b) they always make me nostalgic for home...so feast your eyes these photos of the Holland Harbor!

I love Big Red and am completely smitten with this sailboat even though I wouldn't have the slightest clue of what to do if I hopped on board.

Above are some of my favorite girls, all of us were raised up in the Great Lake State!!  Below is my pup Max, he was super excited to take me back to the airport!

Thanks for the awesome weekend Michigan and the PERFECT beach weather!

Sartorial Compass: Rihanna

Today's Sartorial Compass is one day late, but I couldn't resist posting this anyways.  I took a little blogging break for a sweet wedding ceremony in which I got to travel back to Michigan to attend.  I spent an awesome long weekend with some of my best friends, and my family!  A post featuring some photos of dreamy (and pure) West Michigan to come!

So let's get down to business...Sartorial Compass features a bit of an edge today, a far cry from the SUPER classy Diane Kruger last week.  Today I want to highlight Rihanna's fab and fearless dressing.  (Diane and Rihanna do happen to own the same roaring panther bathing suit, so maybe they're not so different after all...)  Rihanna has gone through some MAJAH style evolutions, but I think her latest looks are the greatest because let's get real, there's nothing cooler than a girl who can rock the edgiest all black running around in massive white tulle concoction, and crazy orange pants, but she can pull it off.  My favorite Riri looks are documented below....

I love how daring she is with color, the colorblocked pants and top above is one of my favorites and the blue Zac Posen dress below was one of her first home runs!

Which Rihanna look is your fave?  So some Rihanna tips for this week...animal print always, BRIGHT colorblocking, and obviously some red hair!!

See these two do have similar taste!!  But who wore it best?

Sartorial Compass: Diane Kruger

As a way of getting the week off to a great start I present Sartorial Compass.  A Sartorial Compass is somebody who has a knack for style, is always pulled together but often with a twist, and she has something that makes her extra special.  I suppose there are dude sartorial compasses too, their time will come.  Ryan Gosling anybody?

Diane Kruger has been ruling red carpets and just plain kicking it in great looks for years.  Once a model, always a muse, she has since gone on to star in some great films (Inglorious Basterds, National Treasure...).  Below I've put together some photos of her in daytime looks, and red-carpet stunners.  She's a chameleon for sure and can rock whatever she wants (from jcrew in one look, to a biker jacket in another, casual chanel...you get the idea).

Because she is Diane Kruger and an actress I have to throw in red carpet looks.  She's in the "I'm so cool, I have impeccable style, and am friends with designers so I don't need a stylist" category of chic-ness.  Just another reason to have mad-respect for her, obviously on top of the fact that her better half is Charlie Conway/Pacey Whitter/Joshua Jackson.

My absolute favorites are the white Calvin Klein (top/center) the pink lace in the corner with the turquoise shoes...LOVE.  Also the pink Calvin Klein (bottom/center) and the white Chanel to the right of it...but they're all amazing and I hope that they can inspire you and your style during the week ahead.  Just remember: hats, bright solids, and a little bit of embellishment here and there!

Sartorial Roadtrip: Charleston, SC

As many of you know, I have just moved to South Carolina for the summer, or until a real-life full-time job comes about.  So on May 30th,  2011 my Dad and I began our trek down to Charleston.  Sadly my camera was not prepared for such eloquent Kentucky road signs as (this is absolutely no lie): "Big Bonelick State Park," and "Stinking Creek."  I also wish I would have captured a photo of the kindest, most interesting Arby's employee that I have ever met, Chadwick was his name.  My lil' Canon was however prepared for the BEAUTIFUL drive through Appalachia.

For many reasons Kentucky is an interesting place, what Steve-o and I didn't realize is that they're very active in forewarning drivers, for example while on the highway in Kentucky we saw a sign for an up-coming tunnel, we didn't reach said tunnel until North Carolina.  Thanks for giving me ample time to prepare the camera!

We checked out downtown Asheville and loved it, it's like a more hippie version of Saugatuck, Mi.

And now I'm in Charleston and I met this lil' fella at the beach!!  Can you spot him?  He was definitely camera shy!

Residents of the Runway: Neutral-Blocking

Neutral Blocking is a new term for Spring '11 I'm pretty sure I just made it up. So in the 2nd installment of Residents of the Runway I want to look at some super cool full-on neutral homes in Charleston & this spring trend.

While wandering around and taking a look at some of these homes, I realized that I LOVE when the homes are a little on the ragged side. When stucco isn't perfect, & there are funky spots here and there from trying to cover up cracks on the exterior. Here are 3 homes that are so on trend: Neutral Blocking.

These runway pics come from assorted shows during fashion month. The first is (one of my fave models Ginta Lapina) from the Chloe spring show...specifically reminding me of house #2. The 2nd look is from Brioni, the 3rd from Cushnie et Ochs, I love how both are updated suit looks. And last but not least a look from the Rodarte Spring '11 show, LOVE THIS, it definitely gives me home #1 vibes, with the mixed textures.

What are your thoughts on Neutral-Blocking, think you can rock it as well as Charleston?

Today I Went Thrifting...

In between stops at Autozone (looking every bit the auto illiterate lady that I am) for a tail light, and Wal-Mart (it's an extra interesting place in the south...) for a beach chair, I found two thrift stores and had to stop in. Today I ended up walking away with a few fun things...

I believe I picked up this blouse for $1.75!! I think I'll have to get the shoulders taken in just a touch, but I love the graphic print on it, and couldn't pass up the price!

I'm super excited about the envelope clutch, it's a great bag for summer nights and can actually hold a bunch, which is great because I'm a bit of a schlep-aholic.

This lil' glass is the perfect addition to my collection of dishes with gold touches used for hanging on to all of the knick knack's I've got lying around...perhaps bobby pins for the new one?

Total price for my haul?? A whopping $7.87! I can't wait to put all of the pieces to use.

Residents of the Runway

Today I decided to spend my afternoon walking around this beautiful city to find some awesome homes that embody some Spring/Summer 2011 trends. As it turns out Charleston has been wayyy ahead of the SS '11 trends, and there were a bunch of cool photos to snap. When I was looking through my SS 2011 lookbook on style.com for a trend refresher, the first edition of Residents of the Runway came to me in a second, so let's get to it.

Today's trend: Monochromatic BRIGHTS!

In Charleston there is a section of houses that are nicknamed "Rainbow Row." For about two blocks there are these pastel colored stucco homes and they go PERFECTLY with the runway pieces that I was reminded of today...
The runway looks that inspired this post are from Christopher Kane's SS '11 ready-to-wear collection. He did these unreal monochromatic lace number's in which the colors came out like muted neons, and were such standouts...

So what do you all think about the looks?

Welcome to Charleston

Just a quick post about where I'll be spending the summer...more photos of adorable little homes to come but for now...Marion Square Park during the farmers market/Spoleto festivities today.
Tradd & King!
The entrance to my bedroom, finished most of my organizing today.

P.S. apparently in Michigan and Chicago we're super spoiled and until this move I have never in my life seen a live cockroach or "palmetto bug"...I have now seen 3 alive and at least 6 dead...could be a long summer.

Welcome

Hey everybody, welcome to my new blog! I am super excited about this, and just want to explain my whole idea behind it! I want it to cover my love of fashion as well as my love of interior design other beautiful things. It will include both original images and images that I've picked up all over the inter-webs from other bloggers and editorials.

The Name
Sartorial: Webster's defines it as "of or relating to a tailor or tailored clothes; broadly: of or relating to clothes." In context "The wedding party arrived in sartorial splendor."

Roadmap: This part of the title refers to me finding my way through life...and hopefully the blog will follow me on trips through the country and the world. (It will also provide a few fun puns along the way i.e. "Sartorial Roadtrips").

Thanks for checking it out, and I'll be sure to have a new post up shortly!!
